Good morning! And Happy Easter!

Read the following passage taken from John 20:1-10

Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”

3 So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. 4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7 as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. 8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. 9 (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.) 10 Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.

Mary, and all the disciples, had seen Jesus be crucified. They knew he was dead. They knew where he had been buried. They had a whole Sabbath day wrestling with grief, sadness, injustice.

The hope of what Jesus had done and what they thought he was going to do seemed to lay in tatters, buried in the tomb with Jesus.

What have you felt frustrated, confused or sad about lately? What dreams, hopes or plans have died in your life? As you meditate on this, bring them all to Jesus, who died so we can receive new hope and a new life.

Early in the morning, at the start of a very special day, things were not as expected. The stone had been rolled away. Folded grave clothes. Angels. No sign of Jesus body.

Jesus was not dead. Hope began to stir again amongst the confusion. In fact, hope was alive. Jesus was risen from the dead.

This new day would bring forth the reality of new possibilities. Hopes and dreams began to ripple through hearts again.

As we start this Easter day, allow the Holy Spirit to bring you fresh hope. Allow Jesus to stir your heart with his dreams based on his resurrection life.

Let the words of “Living Hope” song inspire you to reach out to Jesus and allow Him to speak to you today.

How great the chasm that lay between us
How high the mountain I could not climb
In desperation, I turned to heaven
And spoke your name into the night
Then through the darkness
Your loving kindness
Tore through the shadows of my soul
The work is finished, the end is written
Jesus Christ, my living hope!

Who could imagine so great a mercy?
What heart could fathom such boundless grace?
The God of ages stepped down from glory
To wear my sin and bear my shame
The cross has spoken, I am forgiven
The king of kings calls me His own
Beautiful saviour, I'm yours forever
Jesus Christ, my living hope!

Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the roaring lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
Jesus, yours is the victory!

Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope!
